Dreaming of Europe

Recently I’ve been dreaming of a vacation. Somewhere warm, in a quant little village off the coast of the Mediterranean, maybe in Spain not too far from Barcelona. I’d love to relax in a hammock, lay by the sea, go into town and buy seafood caught that morningĀ and cook it for dinner. I want to watch Flamenco dancers, and sip wine while eating olives. I want to eat warm paella.I want to bask in the Spanish sun. I want to escape from the cold, harsh winter that is New York. I want to be away from the city, giving me time to relax and be with my thoughts. This is what I want!

NYC Restaurant Week

It’s that time again, New York Restaurant Week! This past Monday night, four friends and I went to Fig and Olive in the Meatpacking District for an amazing meal, at an amazing price. For just under $100 per person, we each had a three-course meal, 2 drinks, and gave our amazing service staff a good tip. While this is far and beyond what I would normally spend on dinner, I find it a necessary activity to partake in occasionally, especially when you can involve your friends. If you’re not going to take advantage of everything NYC has to offer, why bother living here?

Signed. Sealed. Apartment Keys Delivered.

Finally, it is finalized. I couldn’t have asked for a better Valentine’s Day gift! Today I received the keys to my new apartment. As briefly described recently, the apartment is going to fit all of my needs, and put me close to many forms of transportation and my friends. I am very excited to being this new chapter of my life in New York, and decorating a room with my own furniture, art, and living in a space I have designed.

Home Sweet (Maybe) Home

Could it be? Could I have found a place to live? I could have, but I could have found a place to live a few weeks ago, and we all know how that turned out. However, this time is different. At least I hope it is different! This time, the current occupant of the room is already in the process of moving out, and it should be available sooner rather than later. While I am optimistic about having a place to move into, until the deal is done, I can’t be sure.

Word Vomit 2.0

Sitting in bed, staring at the computer screen. I search and search and search. I found it, it’s gone. I reply, to no response. It’s perfect! But too expensive. These are my frustrations with apartment hunting in New York City. Although this city never sleeps, I need to, and searching for an apartment is exhausting. Add into the mix that I need to get along with the roommates and you’ve created a whole new issue. Continue reading

A Night at the Opera

Figaro, Figaro, Figaro! This is the image most people have when they hear the word opera. Or, a heavy-set woman wearing a viking hat belting the highest pitched sound you’ve ever heard come from a human being before glass starts breaking all around. This is not the opera I know and enjoy. Opera’s tend to tell great love stories and dramatic tragedy, that although can be difficult to understand offer great entertainment. This past Wednesday I saw Don Giovanni at Lincoln Center, and it did not disappoint. This was actually supposed to be posted on Thursday, but it was bumped when I found out I still needed to look for an apartment. Continue reading

And the Saga Continues

Forget everything I told you the other day in my post about finding an apartment! In fact, because this couldn’t wait, what I was going to upload today is getting bumped until tomorrow. To put it bluntly, I don’t have an apartment to move into again. The sublet I thought I would be moving into fell through, and now I have to begin the search all over again. Apartment hunting is not how I wanted to spend my February, as I have already done it for two months and it is exhausting. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that I have much of a choice. My Journey Is Complete

By George, I think she’s got it! Yes, I know that isn’t the real quote, but I do think I have a place to move into at the end of this month! And for that, who care’s how many quotes I mess up! After a tiresome search, responding to countless ads on Craigslist and looking at six apartments I believe I have found my new home. All the deals haven’t been hammered out yet, but the room has been offered to me and I have accepted. I am still a little anxious that this could somehow fall through, but overall I think this will work out perfectly fine, and of the options that had been available previously, this seems like the best.
